Eight teams will gather to duke it out in sunny Sydney, Australia. Six out of the eight teams received a direct invitation to IEM Sydney 2017, while the remaining two had to earn a spot via qualifiers. There’s a nice chunk of money on the line, around $200k, so we guess that the participants will come prepared.

IEM Sydney 2017 Opening matches
The group stage is being played using the bo1 swiss format. And that is great for you as a spectator since you’ll get to see awesome match-ups between the best teams in the world that early on. And, of course, great betting opportunities for those who are looking to earn some extra cash. Check out the list below to read up on each team to find out what their current form are.
North vs OpTic Gaming
North definitely drew the shortest straw out of the top teams, they’re up against OpTic in their opening match. A strong start in a swiss format is super important. It’s vital for North to beat OpTic if they even want to stand a chance getting through to the playoffs. But, the Danish squad should be able to overcome the North-American mix team. Especially considering how bad OpTic’s been looking lately.
SK Gaming vs Vici Gaming
Easy for the former world champions, it will be hard for Vici Gaming even to string a couple of rounds together. The Brazilian squad is heavily favored, and the odds shows it, no surprise there. Perhaps the easiest pick out of all opening matches, but the potential payoff is surely not great. Still, we can’t bet against SK this time; we just can’t. Simply too much of a risk to take.
Astralis vs Chiefs eSports Club
The current best team in the world versus an unknown one. We all know how it will end. If Chiefs, against all odds, manages to defeat Astralis, it will be one of the biggest upsets in a long time. In other words, it’s not very likely to happen. However, if you for some reason want to bet on the home team, you could potentially win huge.
FaZe vs Renegades
FaZe Clan came into the scene with the acquisition of the players of G2 Esports. When they failed to succeed, they tried to swap some of the players. As for today, the team consists of karrigan, allu, NiKo, kioShiMa and rain. And it seems like the new roster is a winning concept. Their last couple of months has been godlike, with several playoffs and even a win at the SL i-League StarSeries Season 3 finals. As much as we’d like to see Renegades win, karrigan and his boys are just too strong.
